This is the tightest common combination in South Florida cruising: disembark at PortMiami, then cross a county line to catch a flight from Fort Lauderdale. It works perfectly well, but the margins are thinner than people assume, and it is the one we most often talk customers into rebooking a later flight for.
The arithmetic: ship docks, an hour to clear and reach ground transportation, an hour on I-95 in unpredictable traffic, then two hours at FLL for a domestic departure. That is four hours minimum from scheduled arrival, and five is comfortable.
Where your driver meets you
The same as any PortMiami disembarkation: your driver waits in the terminal's pre-arranged ground transportation zone with a name board, and you will have his direct number the evening before.
Because this run is time-critical, we stage the vehicle early on turnaround mornings rather than dispatching it when the ship docks.

What is the earliest flight I should book out of FLL?
Nothing before noon if your ship is scheduled to dock at seven. Five hours from scheduled arrival to departure is the comfortable number, and cruise arrival times are not guaranteed.
Is Port Everglades not closer to FLL?
Much — it is about two miles. But you sail from where your ship berths. If you are choosing a cruise and want the easiest airport connection, sailing from Port Everglades and flying FLL is by far the simplest combination.
Can you hold our bags if we have a late flight?
Yes. We can keep luggage in the vehicle while you spend a few hours in Fort Lauderdale or on the beach, then take you to the airport afterwards.
What happens if traffic makes us late?
Your driver monitors conditions and takes the alternative route when I-95 is backed up. This is exactly why the buffer exists.
