MSC Cruises operates from Terminal AA at PortMiami — at 490,000 square feet, the biggest terminal building on the island. Larger terminal, larger ships, and correspondingly heavy traffic on turnaround days.

MSC draws a high proportion of international passengers, which changes the disembarkation maths: immigration on a non-US arrival routinely takes longer than people plan for. If you are connecting to a flight the same day, build in more buffer than you think you need.

Terminal AA is reached the same way as every other terminal at the port — over the Port Boulevard bridge, which is the single approach onto the island and the one genuine bottleneck on a busy morning. There is no alternative route, so the only thing that actually helps is setting off at the right time, and that is what we plan around rather than the printed boarding window.

For embarkation, aim to arrive inside your assigned boarding window rather than as early as you can. Turning up two hours early does not get you aboard sooner; it puts you in a longer queue outside in the heat. The middle of the window is consistently the quietest part of the morning.

Pickup and drop-off

Arriving: passenger drop-off is at the terminal frontage, porters take the checked bags from there.
